Patryk Klimala leaves Celtic as misfit striker signs for New York Red Bulls

Out-of-favour striker Patryk Klimala has left Celtic to sign for New York Red Bulls.

The Polish forward has been a fringe figure at Parkhead since completing a £3million move from Jagiellonia Białystok in January 2020.

He will now link up with former Celtic youngster Cameron Harper, who also made a move to the MLS side earlier this season.

A Celtic statement said: "Patryk Klimala has joined Major League Soccer side, New York Red Bulls, and he will link up with another former Celt, Cameron Harper, who joined the club in March.

"The 22-year-old striker joined Celtic in January 2020 from Polish side, Jagiellonia, and made his debut that same month in a 2-1 away win against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup. His first Celtic goal came on the opening day of this season, scoring the fifth and final goal in a 5-1 win over Hamilton Accies.

"He made a total of 28 appearances for the Hoops, scoring three goals, and picked up a Scottish Cup medal back in December as Celtic secured the Quadruple Treble.

"Everyone at Celtic thanks Patryk for his contribution to the club and wishes him every success in the future."

Klimala made 24 appearances this season but managed only sporadic starts.

His most high profile opportunity came in the 2-0 defeat to Rangers in October 2020.
