Patryk Klimala in Celtic and Rangers MLS title claim as he insists standard is higher in the States than Premiership

Former Celtic striker Patryk Klimala insists his former club and Rangers "wouldn't find it easy" to win the MLS.

The 23-year-old struggled to make the grade at Celtic Park after making a £3.5million move from Jagiellonia Białystok in January 2020.

The Glasgow giants then sold the Polish striker to New York Red Bulls for around the same fee in April of this year.

Klimala made an instant impact Stateside netting eight times in his debut campaign during their playoff run.

In an interview in his homeland, he took a swipe at the standard of the Scottish Premiership and predicted a tough title fight for Rangers and Celtic if they were to somehow join the league.

When asked how he felt the Glasgow giants compared to teams in the MLS, he told Sport: "I think Celtic and the Rangers would be favourites to win the league, although I don't think it would be easy for them to win.

"I am convinced that the overall MLS level is above the Scottish Premiership.

"Although I rarely played for Celtic, I saw the potential of those teams.

"In Scotland, the physical aspect is dominant. I think that in the USA in every aspect, tactical and technical, the level is higher."

He also bristled at suggestions in the interview that he has moved to a weaker league after leaving Europe.

Klimala added: "The fact that this league is less known does not mean that it is weak. I don't know if I would choose another club overseas (in Europe)."
