Patrol finds driver fast asleep on M56 hard shoulder

A driver woke up to an unwelcome surprise this morning, after police fined him for parking up on the side of the motorway to have a snooze.

Officers from Cheshire Police came across a van stopped in the hard shoulder of the M56 with no lights on, and pulled up to check on the driver.

Inside, they found a man fast asleep, just two miles after the turn off for Chester Services.

Posting a picture of the van to their Twitter page, officers from the North West Motorway Police said: "Can anybody see the problem of where this driver was found tucked up for the night in his van, fast asleep, with no lights on?

"This was on the M56, around two miles after passing Chester Services.

"I'm sure the ticket has woke him up sufficiently to continue his journey."

Whilst this driver was able to drive away and continue his journey, another motorist stopped by NWMP wasn't so fortunate.

Officers from the GMP arm of the group arrested a man and seized a black Vauxhall Zafira on Bolton Road, Farnworth, shortly before 4am after spotting the car's brake lights being "stuck on".

When officers took a closer look, they allegedly discovered the car had no MOT, the driver was using a provisional license and driving without insurance, and he was wanted for failing to attend a court hearing at Manchester Magistrates.
