PATRIOTS WIRE PODCAST: Analyzing the Sony Michel trade and the QB competition

The New England Patriots traded their former first-round pick, Sony Michel, and the topic went relatively undiscussed. Michel led New England to a Super Bowl LI win with an impressive set of playoff performances. After that, he was known for inefficiency and injuries — until the end of last season. That’s when he started to come on (again). That’s also probably why the Patriots decided to trade him now. His value has not been this high since his rookie season.

And the Rams traded the Patriots a fourth-round and a sixth-round pick for the running back — which is a surprisingly agreeable return for New England.

Why did that topic go overlooked? Well, the Patriots were dealing with a quarterback competition — which had taken a dramatic turn. Cam Newton missed five days of work after accidentally violating the NFL’s COVID-19 protocol. Mac Jones took his opportunity and ran with it.

We discuss all that and more.

Listen up, folks.
