Patriots Twitter reacts to QB Malik Cunningham signing to main roster

Who would have thought that one practice squad elevation could galvanize the New England Patriots’ fan base?

Such was the case on Saturday when it was announced that the Patriots were promoting backup rookie quarterback Malik Cunningham to the main roster.

But it wasn’t an ordinary practice squad elevation.

The Patriots reportedly signed Cunningham on a three-year deal. That isn’t a normal occurrence, and if anything, it highlights how impressed the team must have been with his improvements behind the scenes. But what will his role be on the roster?

That’s the biggest question when it comes to Cunningham, who first made noise when taking reps under center in the preseason. With all of the current quarterback struggles for the Patriots, there’s hope that Cunningham’s dual abilities could generate a spark that the position lacks with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

However, there’s no certainty that Cunningham will even get a crack at playing quarterback considering he has also worked in at receiver and special teams.

The possibility of the latter being the reality for the rookie signal-caller didn’t bring down the mood in the room for Patriots fans, who seem convinced he can help the team turn the season around.

Let’s take a look at what Patriots Twitter was saying after the signing.
