Patriots agree to trade for Falcons TE Eric Saubert

The New England Patriots have reached a deal to acquire tight end Eric Saubert from the Atlanta Falcons, the Falcons announced on Monday morning. The Patriots will send a conditional seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Saubert.

Saubert’s acquisition comes on the same day that tight end Matt LaCosse is absent from practice and Lance Kendricks is wearing a red noncontact jersey. New England’s tight end position looks banged up. Saubert will join a group that also includes Ryan Izzo, Andrew Beck and Stephen Anderson.

The Falcons selected Saubert out of Drake in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2018, he played in 16 games, with one start, and had five catches for 48 yards.

Saubert is likely a long shot to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster.
