Patriots trade for Cardinals LT Korey Cunningham

The New England Patriots are trading for Arizona Cardinals left tackle Korey Cunningham, he announced on Instagram on Wednesday. In return, the Patriots will send Arizona a sixth-round pick, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

While the Patriots have starters Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon in place at tackle, New England did not have a swing tackle to serve as a backup. Cunningham appears likely to make New England’s 53-man roster as that depth option. In the final days of preseason, Cunningham will be in competition with tackles Dan Skipper and Cole Croston. Skipper started the season getting reps as the starting left tackle before Wynn was ready to return from injury.

Cunningham was a Cardinals’ seventh-round draft choice in 2018. When tackle D.J. Humphries suffered an injury in Week 11, Cunningham served as the starter for the remainder of the regular season. In college at Cincinnati, he played 33 games, and started 24 as a left tackle.
