Patriots trade back from 23rd overall in 2020 NFL Draft

The New England Patriots are trading out of the 23rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. They agreed to a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers, who selected Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray.

In exchange for the 23rd overall pick, the Patriots will get the Chargers’ 37th and 71st overall picks. That closes the gap between New England’s picks in the first round — the Patriots were previously slated not to pick between 23rd overall and 87th. New England’s stash of draft picks is only growing.

There were plenty of notable prospects on the board for New England at 23: Murray, Utah State QB Jordan Love, LSU LB Patrick Queen, Clemson WR Tee Higgins, Boise State OT Ezra Cleveland, Alabama S Xavier McKinney, Minnesota S Antoine Winfield and Michigan C Cesar Ruiz

Here’s a look at the Patriots’ selections for the rest of the draft after the team’s decision to trade out of the first round.

  • Second round: No. 37
  • Third round: No. 71, No. 87, No. 98, No. 100
  • Fourth round: No. 125, No. 139
  • Sixth round: No. 195, No. 204, No. 212, No. 213
  • Seventh round: No. 230, No. 235
