Patriots to release kicker Forbath: report

The Kai Forbath experience didn't last long.

The Patriots are reportedly releasing the veteran kicker, according to ESPN, after just three days on the roster. Forbath was signed last Friday to replace Nick Folk, who needed an appendectomy on Thanksgiving morning.

Forbath became the fourth kicker used by the Patriots this season. In his one and only game for New England, in Houston Sunday night, the 32-year-old made his only field-goal attempt, from 23 yards. Forbath, however, missed an extra point, which was pushed back five yards. He also made an extra point.

It was reported that Folk's procedure might not keep him out long. After he was released, on Friday, the veteran kicker still had a locker inside Gillette Stadium. Folk replaced Mike Nugent, who the Patriots initially signed to replace Stephen Gostkowski, who's on the injured reserve after hip surgery. Folk hit 77.8% of his field goals with the Pats.

If Folk doesn't return, the Patriots will need their fifth kicker this season.

According to ESPN, the Patriots are replacing Forbath's roster spot with defensive tackle Albert Huggins, who was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia. Huggins, an undrafted rookie, played in four games with the Eagles, making thee tackles.
