Patriots signing former Packers TE Lance Kendricks

A veteran free agent of the Green Bay Packers has found a new home before the start of training camp.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the New England Patriots are signing tight end Lance Kendricks, who played the last two seasons with the Packers.

Kendricks, now 31, signed a two-year deal with the Packers in 2017, shortly after the team added veteran tight end Martellus Bennett. The two were expected to revitalize the team’s tight end position. Bennett didn’t even last a full season before departing, and Kendricks provided precious little impact despite playing in all 32 games.

The former Badger caught 37 passes for 373 yards and two touchdowns over two seasons with the Packers. He managed only 170 yards on 19 catches in 2018.

Kendricks has played for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in the past and could have an opportunity to earn snaps in New England, especially with both Rob Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen no longer on the roster.

One factor to note: Kendricks pleaded no contest to marijuana possession earlier this month and could be subject to NFL discipline.
