Patriots sign TE Lance Kendricks

The New England Patriots have signed tight end Lance Kendricks, according to Kendricks’ agent David Canter. Kendricks will be another piece in the ongoing puzzle of replacing Rob Gronkowski.

Kendricks, 31, had 19 receptions for 170 yards and one touchdown in 2018 with the Green Bay Packers. He also put together a nice season with the Los Angeles Rams in 2016, when he had 50 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns.

New England was looking light at the tight end position following Gronk’s retirement, the release of Dwayne Allen and the trade of Jacob Hollister. To make things worse, the presumed starter, offseason signing Ben Watson, will be serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

With the Patriots’ first training camp practice taking place on Thursday, Kendricks will be in competition with Watson, Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson, Ryan Izzo and Andrew Beck.
