The Patriots' Rob Gronkowski has officially called it a career.
In an announcement posted to the future Hall of Famer's Instagram account Sunday, Gronkowski relayed his gratitude.
"It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far," the 29-year-old said. "I will be retiring from the game of football today."
The three-time Super Bowl champion was once the most feared tight end of the decade, but had considered retirement over the last two seasons. His performance on the field leading up to the Patriot's most recent Super Bowl title, though solid and effective, was not the same it'd been in his prime. He was a former shell of himself who managed three touchdowns and 47 receptions in the regular season.
Gronkowski's nine-year career included 115 games, 521 receptions, 79 touchdowns, five Pro Bowls, and seven playoff appearances.
