Patriots release WR Dontrelle Inman

The New England Patriots have cut receiver Dontrelle Inman, the team announced on Sunday. The move makes space for the Patriots to add Josh Gordon, who is returning from an indefinite suspension. The NFL decided to reinstate him last week — the move goes into effect on Sunday.

Inman requested his release at the news of Gordon’s return, according to multiple reports. Inman, a 31-year-old and a five-year NFL veteran, was struggling to crack into the first-team offense, even after a string of injuries depleted the receiving corps. When speaking with Patriots Wire earlier this month, he brushed off his inability to rise up the depth chart, and maintained a positive attitude. But apparently, the return of Gordon was a big enough impediment that Inman felt he needed to part ways with the Patriots. It’s probably the right move for both parties, as Inman appeared to be on the outside looking in on the roster bubble.
