Patriots QB Cam Newton tests positive for COVID-19 days after facing Raiders

Another NFL game has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests. The Chiefs vs Patriots has been moved to Monday or Tuesday due to a player testing positive on each team. The highest profile is Patriots QB Cam Newton, who will be ruled OUT for the game when it’s played.

The Chiefs player was practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu.

Newton’s positive test comes just days after the Patriots faced the Raiders in their week three match-up in New England.

While it’s unclear where Newton may have contracted the coronavirus, it obviously means several Raiders players came in close contact with him, so must be contact traced. Though you’d think if any of them had contracted it, we would know by now.

As it happened, Newton was sacked twice in the game by Raiders DE Maxx Crosby, one of few Raiders players to have already had COVID-19. He tested positive early in training camp and quarantined for a couple weeks.

These positive test results are a reminder that even with all the daily tests these players take, no one can assume everyone is safe, and even with all the precautions, players can and will contract it.

So, maybe keep your masks on at all times, when around the general public, as several Raiders players failed to do at a charity event this past week.
