Patriots owner Robert Kraft on Tom Brady leaving: ‘I love him like a son’

It’s a sad day for the New England Patriots organization and its fans, even if Tom Brady leaving or retiring always felt like it was going to happen sooner rather than later.

And with Brady announcing he won’t be back with the only organization he’s called home for his entire, legendary NFL career, it ends one of the stronger relationships between a quarterback and the team’s owner that we’ve seen in the league.

Owner Robert Kraft sent a statement to ESPN revealing just what happened on Monday that led up to Tuesday morning’s announcement, which ended with a heartfelt sentiment: “I love him like a son.”

You have to love that he said Brady had earned the right to do what he wanted to do for himself. After all, he’s given so much to Kraft and the Patriots organization.
