Patriots make a flurry of transactions, including putting Julian Edelman on IR, ahead of Week 8

The New England Patriots made a handful of major adjustments to the roster ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

The Patriots placed receiver Julian Edelman and offensive lineman Justin Herron on injured reserved. Edelman underwent a knee surgery to help him manage pain after being limited in practice for every sessions so far this year. Herron (ankle) had been serving as reserve tackle, but an injury to Jermaine Eleumunor thrust Herron into a starting role.

New England added defensive back Cody Davis and linebacker Josh Uche to the 53-man roster from injured reserve. The Patriots drafted Uche in the second round of the 2020 draft, but the linebacker has yet to play a snap this season.

The Patriots also promoted practice-squad defensive end Tashawn Bower and receiver Isaiah Zuber to the 53-man roster for game day on Sunday. And finally, New England signed defensive end Nick Thurman to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
