Patriots losing CB coach Josh Boyer to Brian Flores’ Dolphins

The New England Patriots continue to lose members of their coaching staff to the Miami Dolphins. Former Patriots cornerbacks coach Josh Boyer will serve as the Dolphins’ defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach, the Dolphins announced Friday. The Dolphins will also hire Jerry Schuplinski, former Patriots’ assistant quarterbacks coach, into the same position.

Boyer, 42, served as a coaching assistant for New England from 2006 to 2018. During that time, he helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls. Prior to that, he worked with a handful of smaller colleges, including serving as a defensive coordinator at South Dakota School of Mines.

Boyer and Schuplinski are two of the many folks with ties to the Patriots on the Miami staff. Flores, now the head coach, was the Patriots defensive play caller in 2018. Chad O’Shea, now the Dolphins’ offensive coordinator, was the Patriots’ receivers coach. Matt Lombardi, a quality control assistant, has ties to the Patriots through his father Mike Lombardi, a good friend of Bill Belichick and former New England executive. And Tiquan Underwood, also in charge of quality control in Miami, played receiver for the Patriots.
