Patriots fans celebrate NFL’s decision to reinstate WR Josh Gordon

The New England Patriots seemed to be entering the 2019 NFL season with a lack of proven receiving options for QB Tom Brady in the wake of Rob Gronkowksi’s retirement, but the Patriots offense got a bit scarier on Friday evening, as the NFL announced that wide receiver Josh Gordon has been conditionally reinstated and cleared to resume team activities.

Gordon, the former Browns receiver who has received multiple suspensions due to substance abuse issues, announced in December that he was stepping away from the game to focus on his mental health. On the same day, Gordon was suspended indefinitely by the NFL for a violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement. It was reported earlier this month that Gordon had filed for reinstatement, and the league announced on Friday that Gordon may rejoin the Patriots to prepare for the season, “subject to appropriate progress on clinical care and other arrangements.” Gordon will not be available to play in the Patriots’ next preseason game, per the NFL’s statement.

Gordon will hopefully be able to turn his career around with his latest chance, and Patriots fans are overjoyed by the news.
