Patriots DT Byron Cowart had a funny thought on what Tom Brady’s return to Gillette Stadium will be like

While many around New England are anxiously awaiting the return of former quarterback and future Hall of Famer Tom Brady to Foxboro this October, it appears at least one member of the team is treating it as just another game.

On an episode of the IGTV show “Patriots Way of Life” posted by “weupnowgaming” Patriots defensive tackle Byron Cowart shared his thoughts on his former teammate coming back to New England.

“He’s done a lot of things for this organization,” Cowart said. “He’s coming back, but he’s coming back as an opponent, so I’m going to treat it like any opponent.”

As his co-hosts set the scene, explaining that the Patriots are “welcoming back” Brady to Gillette, Cowart cuts them off.

“We ain’t welcoming him back. We just [have to] play him,” he stated. “There ain’t going to be no damn ceremony for him or nothing like that.”

Those are some pretty strong words from the defensive tackle, as Brady was with the organization for 20 years, winning six Super Bowls in his time.

Even when one of his co-hosts shared that he thinks there might be some type of recognition for him this year, Cowart doubled down through a laugh.

“They might clap for him, but there’s not going to be… this is our opponent. Bro, what? We like to win.”

And, when asked if there is extra pressure on the organization for this game, Cowart responded like a Patriot.

“No,” Cowart said. “It’s still a Boston mentality. I’m trying to adapt the culture, but it’s like blue-collar, hard-working people. Like I said, love the guy. He did a lot for the community, the city, but he’s still an opponent.”

If we know anything about Brady, he uses anything to find motivation, so guarantee this will be playing in his speakers until that October meeting.
