Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio a name to consider for Texans GM

It is no secret that the Houston Texans are endeavoring to become New England Patriots South under the leadership of coach Bill O’Brien. With that said, there is a name to consider in the club’s search for a new general manager after the firing of Brian Gaine.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and his colleague Tom Pelissero, the Texans may look at interviewing Nick Caserio, the Patriots’ director of player personnel, for their general manager opening.

While the Texans had interest in January 2018 when they hired Gaine, what stopped them from getting Caserio in the first place was New England allegedly denying Houston a chance to interview their director of player personnel.

Caserio has ties to O’Brien directly in that Caserio was the receivers coach for the 2007 Patriots when O’Brien was an offensive assistant. Caserio went back into the front office the next season and O’Brien took Caserio’s old coaching job.

The 43-year-old has been with the Patriots organization in some capacity, mostly front office, since 2001, one season shy of the entirety of the Belichick era. It can be trepidatious for any front office guy or assistant coach to get away from Belichick and football savant Ernie Adams. But if there were a place that tried to uphold the Patriot Way as best as any organization outside of Foxborough, it would be the Texans.
