Patriots dealing with a large number of injuries to WRs and TEs

The New England Patriots’ practice on Wednesday came with bad news for their pass-catchers.

Wide receivers Julian Edelman (NFI) and Demaryius Thomas (PUP) were present but not in uniform, as they have been for all of training camp. Tight ends Matt LaCosse and Stephen Anderson were not present due to injuries. Receiver N’Keal Harry returned to practice, but did not participate in the session beyond warm-ups. Tight end Lance Kendricks started the session in a red non-contact jersey. And receivers Phillip Dorsett and Maurice Harris both appeared to suffer injuries during practice, according to reporters on the scene. It’s a tough sequence of events for the group of pass-catchers.

The good news is that rookie standout Jakobi Meyers and developing veteran Braxton Berrios are both healthy.

But because the Patriots are struggling to field a first-team offense, the Patriots have resorted to using just about every receiver they have left to play with Tom Brady. On Wednesday, receivers Damoun Patterson, Dontrelle Inman, Gunner Olszewski and Ryan Davis spent time with Brady. To that point, they had been getting reps with backups Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham.
