Patriots cut Dwayne Allen, who told us a great Tom Brady story before the Super Bowl

This time last month the New England Patriots were getting ready for yet another championship parade through the streets of Boston after beating the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

Fast forward to present day and it’s now time for the business side of football, with teams saying goodbye to some players so they can make room for others leading up to the start of free agency.

The New England Patriots made some moves on Monday, including releasing tight end Dwayne Allen, who spent the past two years with the team.

During Super Bowl week in Atlanta I went around and asked a number of Patriots players for their best Tom Brady story, and Allen’s was pretty great:

He said:

It was probably before the first home game that I was involved with. We all get ready and we crowd in by the door. I get my stuff and all of the sudden everyone just parts and I’m kind of stuck in the middle like, ‘What is going on?’ I turn around and Tom with his helmet, pulls one of these (brushes his hair back dramatically with his hand) and he’s walking through. He walks through the crowd of people that had just parted and he turns around and he’s just like, ‘Are you ready?’ And I’m like ‘YEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH. LET’S GO.’ It was one of a very few fanboy moments I’ve had as a professional athlete.

Allen reportedly has meetings lined up with four teams this week, so he likely won’t be out of work for long. But it’s safe to say he’ll never forget his time playing with the greatest QB of all time.
