Patriots bring back past roster hopeful in two practice squad signings

The New England Patriots have reportedly signed linebacker Joe Giles-Harris and Yvandy Rigby to the practice squad, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Giles-Harris was always considered a long-shot roster hopeful, but he steadily worked his way closer to making the initial 53-man roster after an impressive training camp and preseason run. He even picked off Washington Commanders backup quarterback Jeff Driskel in the preseason finale.

However, it still wasn’t enough to secure a spot in a crowded linebackers room in New England. He was an obvious practice squad candidate the moment he was released.

Meanwhile, Rigby is an undrafted rookie out of Temple, who spent time with the Baltimore Ravens this year.

Giles-Harris hasn’t taken a snap since 2022, when he was still with the Buffalo Bills. But his presence gives the Patriots a veteran depth option with experience contributing on defense and special teams.

The latest additions to the practice squad brings the Patriots up to a complete 17 players with defensive end Jotham Russell serving as the one international exemption.
