Patriots-Bengals taping investigation takes another turn

The Cincinnati Bengals, who were reportedly “furious” and wanted the New England Patriots punished, might end up ultimately getting their wish.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported over the weekend that the NFL is expected to discipline the Patriots for the well-known videotaping incident in which cameras filmed the Bengals’ sideline.

That said, the NFL later issued a statement to ESPN’s Adam Schefter: “The investigation is ongoing and there has been no discussion of any potential discipline. Any suggestion of potential discipline or a timeline on an announcement is pure speculation.”

Good luck figuring out which one it is. While it seems clear the timeline remains in question, discipline is sure to come down at some point after the Patriots openly admitted a mistake happened. What’s interesting is Rapoport’s note about it still remaining unknown if the film crew had a link to New England’s football operations.

Even if it’s a simple gameday violation resulting in a fine and loss of a minor draft pick, expect the NFL to punish the Patriots for the well-documented gaffe.
