Patriots sign WR Cameron Meredith

The New England Patriots are signing wide receiver Cameron Meredith, according to multiple reports. Meredith visited with the Patriots earlier this week.

The Patriots’ competition at receiver has been thin without Julian Edelman (thumb) and Demaryius Thomas (Achilles) at practice. Instead, they’ve elevated roles for rookies Jakobi Meyers, an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State, and N’Keal Harry, a 2019 first-round draft choice from Arizona State. They’re competing for spots on the depth chart with Maurice Harris, Phillip Dorsett and Braxton Berrios, among others.

Meredith, a 6-foot-3 wideout, joins the Patriots after four years of NFL experience with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.

Meredith went undrafted out of Illinois State in 2015. He emerged on the Bears’ roster in 2016 with 66 receptions for 888 yards and three touchdowns. He missed the 2017 season with a knee injury and only played six unimpressive games in 2018 before ending up on IR with another knee issue.
