The New England Patriots can kiss the playoffs goodbye.
Heading into the Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, the Patriots needed a win to increase their playoff chances to 28 percent. That percentage was slim, but the upcoming schedule of the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and New York Jets made it a possibility.
Following the disheartening 24-3 loss, the Patriots’ playoff chances dropped to 6 percent, according to ESPN’s Football Power Index.
To be blunt, the race for the playoffs didn’t make much sense anyways. New England’s offense has been horrid this season and the defense has been shoddy. One week the Patriots have a convincing 45-0 win and the next week they struggle to stop the run and put any points on the board.
On top of the playoff scenario, the Patriots’ streak of 17 consecutive seasons with double digits wins comes to an end as well.
