Over the course of the franchise’s existence, the New England Patriots have been synonymous with breaking records. This offseason, they accomplished a new sort of feat.
Starting with losing star quarterback Tom Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots began an organizational overhaul that has seen them come to terms with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. By signing Newton and letting Brady depart, the Patriots accomplished yet another organizational first.
The Patriots became the first team in NFL history to both lose and add a former MVP in a single offseason, according to Elias Sports Bureau. It’s amazing to think that Bill Belichick is still pulling these unprecedented moves off after two decades with the team.
Now, it will be intriguing to see how each quarterback performs with their new teams. If anything, the 2020 season will be unlike anything the Patriots or Buccaneers have ever experienced.
