Patrick Vieira says Crystal Palace will try to avoid Jamie Vardy mistake against Leicester City

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has said his team won't make the mistake of focusing all their attention on Jamie Vardy when they play Leicester City at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

The former England international has scored five times for Brendan Rodgers' side this season and is one of Leicester's biggest attacking threats.

Despite that Vieira says Palace can't get drawn into focusing on individuals and instead said stopping the supply into Vardy would be just as important as stopping the forward himself.

"I think the mistakes that we can make is only to concentrate on one player," said Vieira.

"I think when you look at the midfielders they can run with the ball and they can deliver the last pass I think we have to stop those players to provide goals for Vardy.

"He is one of the top strikers in this league. He's been doing it year after year, he can run behind, he can come to link [the play], he can score left or right-footed, he can score the header. He is a player who would like to run in behind.

"We know all the strengths but we have to stop Leicester to perform if we want to have a chance."

During his press conference, Vieira also spoke about his friendship with former Arsenal teammate Kolo Toure, who is a first-team coach working under Rodgers at Leicester.

The Ivorian followed Rodgers from Celtic to the King Power Stadium in 2019 and according to Vieira has all the tools to one day step into the hot seat himself and become a first-team manager.

"I strongly believe that he has the ability, the potential to go into a managing carrier," said the Frenchman.

"I think it's difficult to find a better place to learn with the way that he [Rodgers] is managing and the way that he wants his team to play.

"He is really happy over there and I hope that he will one day have a chance to show what he's capable to do at this level as a manager."
