'Patrick Vieira reborn' - Arsenal fans love what Matteo Guendouzi did on international duty

Arsenal fans have fallen in love with Matteo Guendouzi.

The young French midfielder's no-nonsense attitude and displays in the middle of the park have caught the eye of the Gunners supporters, who have taken him to their hearts.

The 20-year-old has been named on the final 20 shortlist for the Golden Boy award - handed out to the best player under the age of 21 in Europe's top five leagues every season.

And he won the Gunners' player of the month award for September too.

Everything is rosy in the France star's world, although his Premier League displays did not earn him a call-up to Didier Deschamps' senior France squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers during the international break, much to the chagrin of the Arsenal fans.

He was, however, included in the U21s side for their Euro 2020 qualifiers and produced some typically embattling displays.

The French youngsters beat Azerbaijan 5-0 last Thursday, before finding another five-star display to beat Slovakia 5-3 on Tuesday night.

And footage has emerged fro the win over Azerbaijan that has delighted the Arsenal supporters.

In one clip, shown on Reddit , Guendouzi looks up and sprays a ball from midway inside his own half into the run of a striker, who beats a defender before scoring.

And the other clip shows Guendouzi doing what he does best, battling in the middle of the park, holding off one opposition, turning and as another opponent comes in, wins the ball off him in a 50/50 too before advancing a playing a pass into the middle to get an attack going.

User DefactoOverlord said: "He's great at scrapping. We needed that kind of midfielder for a long time."

BlackAvenue said: "Patrick Vieira reborn."

Another user, unwittinglylad, said Guendouzi had surprised him. He said: "I was still doubting Douzi the first 2 or so games of the season, but then out of nowhere he just flicked the switch and he’s been brilliant since. Really impressed with his performances and the rate he’s improved."

And when user 21ew said that Guendouzi was "going to be the best French midfielder in the future and hopefully the world", AlexSkyL corrected him by saying: "The best French midfielder in the world."
