Patrick Vieira gives verdict after Everton fined £300,000 for pitch invasions

Patrick Vieira has given his verdict on the fine Everton have received from the Football Association for two pitch invasions that occurred last season.

The Blues have been fined £300,000 for two pitch invasions that occurred during and after the club’s Premier League win over Crystal Palace back in May. The 3-2 victory at Goodison Park preserved the Blues' status in the top-flight.

Blues supporters ran onto the Goodison pitch in the aftermath of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header five minutes from time which gave Everton a 3-2 lead. Frank Lampard’s side fought back from 2-0 down at the break thanks to second-half goals from Michael Keane and Richarlison.

Then, following the full-time whistle, thousands of supporters took to the pitch to celebrate the Blues securing their Premier League safety. Palace boss Vieira was also involved in an altercation with one supporter as he made his way to his side's dressing room.

And when asked about the decision made by the FA ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea at Selhurst Park this afternoon, Vieira admitted he wasn’t surprised by the outcome.

He said: “I’m not surprised at all. This is something quite delicate – you need to analyse it properly and to try to get the best decision.

“If they believe that financial sanctions are the best way, then we all have to accept it. It’s not something that you see at Everton often, so the FA have made it clear that it’s something which is unacceptable.

“It’s now time to move on, and hopefully, they will manage the situation in a better way next time.”
