Patrick Vieira issues honest assessment of Crystal Palace’s loss to Aston Villa

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira admitted aspects of his team’s performance in Saturday’s loss to Aston Villa were a source of “frustration”.

Matt Targett and John McGinn had the visitors two-nil up before Marc Guehi scored a late consolation.

While Palace had gone into the Premier League meeting at Selhurst Park enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run, they offered little going forward and did not even register a shot on target until the 80th minute.

That, along with the fact Targett’s opener came as a result of a set-piece (a problem Palace have frequently encountered this season), frustrated Vieira.

Speaking after the loss at home, he said: “I am really disappointed with the result but more disappointed by the performance. Today we didn’t play well enough.

“We didn’t move the ball quick enough, didn’t defend well enough as a team and a consequence is not getting anything from the game. There is a lot of frustration again by the way we conceded the first goal.”
