Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira has had his say on the talents of reported Gunners target Renato Sanches.
The Portuguese midfielder has been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium over recent days, with reports suggesting that Arsenal have requested information over the future of the former Bayern Munich and Benfica man.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have been encouraged to make a move for Sanches with Portugal having now been eliminated from Euro 2020 following a 1-0 defeat to Belgium.
Ahead of that game, Vieira gave his thoughts on Sanches with the 23-year-old having already endured a rollercoaster period in his career.
The Frenchman told ITV: "He was a big prospect. Everybody was waiting for him to be one of the top young players for the future. He moved to Bayern Munich where he has a very difficult period.
"I don’t think it was the right place for him to keep developing. But last year with Lille, he did really well. He wasn’t really consistent during the season, but he had some flashes of his talent."
Sanches, now with Lille, burst onto the scene in 2016 as Portugal lifted the European Championship title.
Then with Benfica, that earned him a big-money move to Bavaria, where despite winning two Bundesliga titles, he made just 53 appearances for Bayern.
That led to a loan switch to Swansea City where the midfielder struggled even more.
Despite those problems, Sanches played a key role for current employers Lille as they lifted a shock Ligue 1 title in 2020/21.
He has two years left to run on his contract with Les Dogues.
