Patrick Vieira excited by Crystal Palace attacking talent at his disposal for Newcastle United clash

Patrick Vieira says it's an exciting prospect having so many good attacking options in his team and that he is pleased with how those players are developing under him this season.

The Eagles have scored 10 goals so far this season, with Wilfried Zaha, Odsonne Edouard, Michael Olise and Christian Benteke all contributing to that total as part of a deadly forward line.

The Palace team will be boosted soon by the arrival of Eberechi Eze back from injury too, who along with Conor Gallagher, Jeffrey Schlupp and Jordan Ayew provide even more depth for Vieira going forward.

"It's really exciting of course for the manager to have different talents, different quality up front," Vieira said on Friday.

"But obviously it is [important] to find the team balance because at the end of the day that is what is important to win games. And we will do it if we play well as a team."

Last time out against Arsenal, Palace had to restructure their front line as a result of Zaha's unavailability due to illness, meaning Vieira started Benteke as striker and played Edouard on the left.

The tactic worked well, with both players scoring in the second half and putting in impressive performances that helped the Eagles claim a point away from home.

Vieira revealed that the decision of putting Edouard on the wing was one that his coaching staff had discussed for a long time, and that he was pleased with how the move paid off.

"It was a question that we spent quite a long time with the staff talking about it," added Vieira.

"I was really pleased with [Edouard's] performance. He is a player that likes to play in between the lines, and he's got this kind of technical ability to be in the right position and to have his first touch going forward.

"I think the relationship between him and Christian was quite good. I think that is that's really good because at the same time, you know, players have to compete for the position. The performances that we had from those three players up front was really good."

Vieira will now have to decide which of his forward players gets into the starting XI to take on Newcastle this weekend, with his options plentiful.

It doesn't seem likely that the Frenchman will alter his formation, and with the return of Zaha confirmed it might mean that one of Benteke or Edouard has to settle for a place on the bench.

Either way, having competition for places in the team can only be a good thing for the Eagles moving forward.
