Patrick Vieira drops hint about Man City return

Patrick Vieira intends to manage at one of his former clubs if his career goes to plan.

The former Arsenal midfielder moved to the Etihad to finish his playing days before spending a number of years at Manchester City establishing his next move.

Despite some time working for the Blues in a business capacity, after deciding his future was in coaching, the Frenchman took charge of the Elite Development Squad for two years before moving on to take charge of City sister club New York City.

Brian Marwood, City football administration officer, has previously stated that the ambition for both Vieira - who went to Bayern Munich to learn from Pep Guardiola - and the club is for him to manage the Blues in the future.

Vieira took the decision last summer to leave the City Football Group as he succeeded Lucien Favre as Nice boss, guiding them to seventh in a season that was not without its challenges.

Arsene Wenger has tipped Vieira to be a future Arsenal manager, and managing a former club is firmly on the coach's radar.

"Since I was in Manchester City I had a clear idea about the next step for me. Moving from City to New York in the MLS and then coming back to the French league was the right decision," he told PA Sport.

"I have a clear idea of what I want to achieve, and I will try to take the right decision to get to the top.

"I want to take my time to get there, but I would love one day to manage one of the teams I played for in Italy or England.

"When you have an exciting league like in England, you always want to get involved. But I don't put a time on it, because my work will decide if I deserve it or not. That is what will dictate if I deserve this kind of job."
