Patrick Vieira backed to get Arsenal manager's job amid Unai Emery unrest

Patrick Vieira has been tipped to take over from Unai Emery should the Arsenal hierarchy wield the axe on the Gunners boss.

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn reckons the Frenchman, who is the current Nice boss, would be a good fit for the Gunners.

Emery has come under fire this year with the north London club looking limp in all competitions despite significant summer investment.

The Spaniard's job is in no immediate danger but should he fail to turn things around - and unrest among the fans continue to grow - the board may be forced to act.

If this day comes, Winterburn reckons Vieira would be a good replacement.

"I don't know if they would be as brave to go with someone like [Freddie] Ljungberg or [Mikel] Arteta," Winterburn told Gambling.com.

They may be terrific coaches but when you take that manager's role it steps up another couple of levels again."

"I would say keep an eye on what's happening with Patrick Viera.

"If someone like that could prove they are able to run a club in the right way, then Arsenal may look towards that eventually."
