Patrick van Aanholt '100 per cent' ready to take a knee for Black Lives Matter

Patrick van Aanholt says is is "100 per cent" prepared to take a knee in support of the Black Lives Matter movement when Crystal Palace return to Premier League action.

The Dutchman has been vocal in his support on the issue in the wake of George Floyd's death in police custody in Minneapolis, even taking Katie Hopkins to task on social media.

The Premier League clubs will discuss this week how they can support the protests after the FA confirmed they would take a "common sense" approach to players taking a stance.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson told Standard Sport last week that he would encourage his players to use their platform to support protesters, and Van Aanholt is more than ready to, revealing it has been a talking point within the club in recent weeks.

"I'm prepared to do it, 100 per cent," Van Aanholt told Sky Sports. "They've done it in Germany and [Premier League] teams have done it in training. We have a platform and as a global sport, we have to come together.

"Everyone has [been talking about it], not just the players. The manager has... the whole club. The white players are asking: 'How can we help?'"

After Raheem Sterling spoke out this week on the challenges facing black coaches and managers, citing the success of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard compared to the struggles of Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell, Van Aanholt suggested such barriers may put him off a career in coaching.

"I don't know. I had Chris Hughton, he was a great manager. I haven't had any other black coaches in my career," he said.

"A little bit, yeah. I don't know if I want to be a coach yet. Ashley Cole is trying.

"[Clarence] Seedorf got his badges then got sacked at AC Milan. I don't know why. Many black coaches have to start from the bottom and again, I don't know why."
