Patrick Quirke murder trial jury told judge will accept majority verdict

The jury in the murder trial of Patrick Quirke has been told by the judge that she will accept a majority verdict.

The foreman of the jury of six men and six women was called back at 11.12am this morning.

They have been deliberating for a total of 18 hours and 24 minutes.

Patrick Quirke, 50, of Breanshamore, Co Tipperary has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Bobby Ryan, a part-time DJ going by the name Mr Moonlight.

Judge Eileen Creedon addressed the jury this morning and told them she will accept a majority verdict.

The judge said: "This is entirely a matter for you and you can take all the time you want."

At least 10 of the jurors have to come to a verdict on which they all agree.

If any less than 10 members cannot come to an agreement, they have been asked by the judge to record their disagreements on issue paper.

The jury then left the court room and are continuing with their deliberations.
