Patrick Peterson is NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was rewarded for his play on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. He was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week Wednesday morning.

He had seven tackles, an interception and three broken up passes in the 38-24 win over the Browns. According to Pro Football Focus, when Mayfield targeted Peterson last Sunday he completed just 5-of-12 attempts for 38 yards and an interception, with a passer rating of 15.3.

He mostly was matched up against Odell Beckham Jr, who only had 66 yards on 13 targets, many of which came on their final drive in garbage time.

It is the third time Peterson has won Defensive Player of the Week and fifth time overall he has been player of the week. He also has earned the honors for special teams play. He is now tied with Kurt Warner for the most weekly honors in team history.

Peterson is the third Cardinals player to earn player of the week honors. Quarterback Kyler Murray was the offensive player of the week for Week 6 and Chandler Jones earned defensive honors for Week 7. Kicker Zane Gonzalez was named player of the month for October.

Peterson has struggled this season. Hopefully this is a turning point and the Peterson fans have grown accustomed to seeing will be on the field for the final two weeks of the season.
