Patrick Peterson driven to tears in making All-Decade team

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was one of three Cardinals to be named to the NFL All-Decade team in April, recognizing the best players from 2010-2019. As he made the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight seasons, it makes sense.

However, coming off a pair of tough seasons personally, it meant a lot to him.

“I cried when I got that because going through that season last year, having the suspension and having to deal with that,” he told reporters in a video conference.

When he was told of the news, he “thought it was a joke.”

It was satisfying to get the honor after his tough 2019.

“I shed a tear because that’s always something I envisioned myself being, one of the greats to ever play the game,” he said. “If I’m not mistaken, 36 corners made All-Decade team in 101 seasons of football. To be one of those guys out of God knows how many thousands of corners that played the game. It definitely was tears of joy.”

Peterson has the ultimate goal to be a Hall of Famer, to get what Deion Sanders calls “that jacket you can’t buy.”

Getting named to the All-Decade team is critical to his goal.

“To see the names that were All-Decade, those nine times out of time, those guys are in the Hall of Fame.”

Peterson still has some things to do in his career but he is on his way to that.
