Patrick Ness's Monster of Men shortlisted for award

Patrick Ness
Patrick Ness's Monsters of Men is only the second young adult novel to be shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke award

Patrick Ness, the author of the Chaos Walking trilogy, has been shortlisted for the Arthur C Clarke award for the last book in the series, Monsters of Men.

The Arthur C Clarke award, for the best science fiction novel, has been running for over 25 years and this is only the second time that a young adult novel has made it on to the shortlist. The first was Stephen Baxter's The H-Bomb Girl in 2007.

Monsters of Men finishes the story of Todd and Viola begun in The Knife of Never Letting Go and continued in The Ask and the Answer.

Also shortlisted for the award are Zoo City by Lauren Beukes, The Dervish House by Ian McDonald, Generosity by Richard Powers, Declare by Tim Powers and Lightborn by Tricia Sullivan. The winner will be announced on 27 April at the SCI-FI London film festival.

To celebrate Patrick's shortlisting he has offered to contribute to the children's books site and we've set up a poll to decide what he should do. Place your vote here.
