Patrick Mahomes really doesn’t want to be seen wearing Under Armour at NCAA title game

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes wasn’t going to miss his Texas Tech Red Raiders play for the program’s first national title.

The moment Tech made the Final Four, Mahomes was already preparing travel plans for Minneapolis. He didn’t forget to pack some tape for his Texas Tech shirts.

See — Mahomes is sponsored by Adidas while Texas Tech is an Under Armour school. It shouldn’t really make a difference if Mahomes wears an Under Armour Texas Tech shirt to root on his school at the NCAA title game, but Adidas pays Mahomes money to literally not wear Under Armour.

He came to this creative solution on Monday night by taping over the Under Armour logo with the words “Adidas” written over it.

That’s amazing.

I respect the pettiness of sports brands to prohibit their athletes from wearing competing logos in public — no matter the circumstance. The Three Stripes couldn’t let Under Armour execs bask in the excitement of seeing the NFL MVP wear their logo. No chance. They get tape.

Adidas knew that this sort of reaction would be featured on the broadcast and couldn’t take a chance.

While the best solution probably would have been to wear a generic red shirt, Mahomes had the situation handled.
