Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl LIV MVP after inspiring the Kansas City Chiefs to a comeback victory over San Francisco 49ers in Miami.
The 24 year-old led the Chiefs to three successive fourth quarter touchdowns, as they turned a 20-10 deficit into a 31-20 victory at Hard Rock Stadium.
Mahomes’ night hadn’t gone to plan for much of the evening, as the Chiefs much-vaunted offence - which had scored 86 points in their two post-season matches - was kept largely in check by the NFC champions.
Indeed, having scored a touchdown in the first quarter, Mahomes threw two interceptions as Kyle Shanahan’s men looked set to land their sixth Vince Lombardi trophy.
But the marginal favourites, who had ended a 50-year wait to win the AFC Championship two weeks ago, surged back with three touchdowns in five minutes 19 seconds late in the day.
That was enough to secure a first Super Bowl victory for veteran coach Andy Reid - previously the NFL coach with the most wins not to win a championship.
And it ensured that Mahomes ended the night as MVP.
It also meant that the Chiefs No.15 is the youngest player in NFL history to win regular season MVP - for the 2018 season - and a Super Bowl.
Speaking post-game, Mahomes insisted: "We never lost faith, that's the biggest thing. We never lost faith, everybody on this team, nobody has their head down.
"We got this guy here (Reid) to get us there. Defence got some big stops, we found a way to win. Coach Reid told me, keep firing, keep believing.
"It worked out well in the end."
