Patrick Mahomes injury: Mahomes ruled out for Week 8 vs. Packers

The Chiefs declined to rule out Patrick Mahomes from a stunning early return from a knee injury earlier this week, but on Friday the team announced that the reigning NFL MVP will indeed miss a Week 8 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night.

Mahomes suffered a dislocated right kneecap during Thursday Night Football against the Broncos in Week 7 and was initially thought to be facing a four-to-six week absence. Instead, Mahomes returned to the practice field this Wednesday, and took part in on-field drills with the team.

Facing arguably their toughest test of the season so far, the Chiefs could certainly use Mahomes in duel against Aaron Rodgers, but Andy Reid said Friday that his star QB needs more time.

Matt Moore will start for the Chiefs on Sunday. Moore completed 10 of his 19 attempts against the Broncos for 117 passing yards and one touchdown. He last started a game in November of 2017 with the Dolphins.
