The NFL’s MVP spent Tuesday in Santa Monica.
Patrick Mahomes was visiting Treyarch Studios, one of the developers of the “Call of Duty” video game franchise, as they’re set to debut their “Operation Grand Heist” content pack. Mahomes is an avid video game player, at least during the offseason.
During Mahomes’ tour of the Southern California studio he took some time to speak with local media. One journalist asked him to share his thoughts on Kareem Hunt signing with the Cleveland Browns last week. Tom Withers of the Associated Press shared the full quote:
“It’s something where he gets another opportunity,” Mahomes said. “I’m sure [the Browns] will have things that he needs to do off the field in order to be on the field playing. Kareem is a great player, great running back.”
The NFL’s leading rusher in 2017, Hunt was released at the end of November after video emerged of him shoving and kicking a woman at a Cleveland hotel last February. He is on the commissioner’s exempt list and awaits what is almost certain to be a lengthy suspension.
Mahomes assumes that the Browns have measures in place to ensure he remains on the field. With that, Hunt gets another opportunity to be a great player and a great running back. For the most part, it’s a pretty neutral statement from Mahomes — not a vote of confidence or excitement for his former teammate, likely because of the situation.
Luckily, Mahomes knows his way around the media and was able to get back to playing some “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” without too much talk about business.
