Patrick Kisnorbo lands Melbourne City manager's job after former Hearts midfielder replaces outgoing boss

Former Hearts midfielder Patrick Kisnorbo has landed the Melbourne City manager’s job.

The Aussie international spent two years at Tynecastle under Craig Levein between 2003 and 2005.

The all-action utility man became a fans’ favorite due to his uncompromising style and work ethic, and further endeared himself to the Gorgie faithful with an Edinburgh derby goal against Hibs and a crucial strike against SC Braga to help the Jambos through to the UEFA Cup group stages.

Having played for Melbourne and more recently filled the assistant manager’s role, Kisnorbo has been given the top job after predecessor Erick Mombaerts returned to France for family reasons.

“I’m grateful to the City Football Group for their support in my development since I began my coaching journey,” said Kisnorbo.

“Erick has taught me so much and I am extremely grateful for the way he has helped both myself and the Club to develop over the last 14 months.

"Melbourne City is in my blood now and I am here to work hard, to give my all and to ensure this team continues to be a team that everyone can be proud to be a part of.”

Melbourne CEO Brad Rowse said: “Patrick has been part of this club for more than seven years and steps into this role at an incredibly important and exciting time for Melbourne City.

"All eyes are on next season and we are all ready to get to work to build on the achievements of this season.”

Director of Football Michael Petrillo added: “Patrick’s apprenticeship under Erick positions him perfectly to take us forward as we enter the next stage of the club’s journey.”

Kinsorbo first signed for Melbourne back in 2013 and became club captain before retiring and joining the coaching staff.

He started with the youth team before guiding the women's team to the Championship, which saw him promoted to Mombaerts’ number two last year.
