CHICAGO _ Another game, another hat trick for the Blackhawks.
A game after Jonathan Toews tallied a hat trick, winger Patrick Kane got his third career regular-season hat trick as the Hawks overcame an injury to defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson in a 6-3 victory over the Coyotes.
Kane scored a goal in each period and now has 23 for the season.
It was an eventful first period that featured the Hawks scoring 37 seconds into the game on a one-timer from Nick Schmaltz as the top line of Schmaltz, Jonathan Toews and Richard Panik continued its recent tear.
The Hawks had a seemingly comfortable lead ahead 3-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Hartman and Kane, but had to make adjustments defensively after Hjalmarsson left the game following his last shift ended with 8 minutes, 22 seconds remaining in the period.
Hjalmarsson did not participate in the Hawks' morning skate and coach Joel Quenneville dressed seven defensemen to begin the game Thursday. But the defense had trouble after Hjalmarsson's exit as Coyotes' Ryan White and Radim Vrbata scored late in the period to tie the game at 3.
The Hawks got the lead back thanks to a goal from Michal Rozsival, who dressed as the seventh defenseman Thursday, 2:56 into the second period.
Then Kane scored his second goal of the night on a breakaway at 12:41 before adding the third from the right circle at 9:49 of the third
