Patrick Kane scores in OT to push Blackhawks past Senators in season opener

OTTAWA, Ontario _ Patrick Kane's backhander in overtime gave the Blackhawks a 4-3 overtime win over the Senators in Thursday night's season opener at Ottawa.

Alex DeBrincat and Jonathan Toews had first-period goals and Brent Seabrook added the tying goal in the third after a scoreless second period.

The Hawks overcame a slow start by Cam Ward, who allowed three goals on the first nine shots he faced but stopped the final 16 shots he faced.

The Hawks outshot the Senators 41-25 in the game.
