Patrick Bamford reveals what inspired him to end his Leeds goal drought

Patrick Bamford has revealed how Preston’s boo boys inspired him to end his goal drought for Leeds .

Bamford netted both goals in Leeds’ 2-0 win at Deepdale to boost their automatic promotion hopes after going five games without scoring.

The former Chelsea striker claimed he was fired up after hearing some Preston fans sarcastically cheer when he scored in the warm-up.

Bamford, 25, who has nine goals in his 20 games for Leeds, said: “It was nice feeling, it was a relief.

“I remember when we were warming up and I scored in the warm-up, a couple of fans, I don’t know how many it was, they were jeering sarcastically when I scored.

“I thought ‘Jesus Christ, really?’, but it was nice to get that one out of the way.

“I know that now that I’ve had that little dry patch of four games or whatever it was, hopefully now I can carry on and start a little run.

“As a striker, you can get frustrated about missing chances, but I feel the more you miss, the more likely you are to score from the next one.

“I kept going and it happened against Preston.”

The win was the ideal response to Leeds’ disappointing loss at Birmingham and Bamford claims the players are keeping calm as the battle for promotion reaches its climax.

“I think the boys are just happy,” he said. “We know that on Saturday we probably should have won the game, but we slipped up.

“There was frustration and regret. We knew we had to put it all together against Preston and we did.”
