Patrick Bamford paid the ultimate compliment on the day England overlooked him

Work rate and off-the-ball impact are just as big a part of Patrick Bamford’s game as his goals in becoming one of the Premier League’s most lethal strikers.

Scott Parker sang the Leeds United striker’s praises in the build-up to Friday night’s match at Fulham, where the hosts are fighting for survival.

The Cottagers boss was asked whether Bamford, who narrowly missed out on England selection on Thursday, is one of the top flight’s most lethal forwards.

“He's right up there,” said Parker. “Faced him last year. The amount of chances Leeds create he's always in that position.

“Tireless work rate and what he's asked to do out of possession at Leeds is phenomenal really.

“The work he puts in is pretty incredible. Added to that is his goal record and him scoring goals which has been very good this year.

“A step up for him, I know he's scored goals in the Championship for some time for different clubs, but now showing his quality in the big league.

“A big challenge for us and the defenders to try and keep him quiet.”

Bamford has scored in all three of the United matches with Fulham where Parker has been in charge for the opponents.

Most recently, it was the 4-2 win at Elland Road last September.
