Patrick Bamford outlines post-playing career plans and coaching versus punditry decision

Patrick Bamford would eventually like to get into football punditry rather than coaching when he retires from the sport.

The Leeds United star is still only 27-years-old, so these are definitely not immediate plans, but he has already thought about his life after retirement.

Bamford has been in fine form for the Whites this season - scoring 14 goals in the club's first campaign back in the Premier League for over 16 years.

Barring any unfortunate injuries, the ex-Chelsea man could still play for the best part of 10 years, but when asked on the official Leeds United Podcast about his plans post-retirement, the striker had plenty to say.

He said: “In terms of setting your affairs in order for life after football, I’ve planned for things like that.

"But when you’re a scholar coming through at any academy, I think you automatically do your first few coaching badges to kind of give you an insight, and give you a chance - if you struggle in the football world - to go into the coaching side of it.

"For me, I’m not too sure, I wouldn’t mind doing one-on-one striker coaching or something like that.

"But I’d much rather work on the pundit side of it, watching the games and analysing it after. Basically getting paid to go and watch football.

“I think, like with anything, there would be an adjustment period (to retiring).

"I’ll miss football and it’s something I love doing, but I know it will eventually end.

"I’m not too worried about that, I just need to make the most of it while I can and then see what comes with it at the end.”

Bamford has been an ever-present figure in Marcelo Bielsa's side this season - featuring in all 29 of Leeds' Premier League matches.
